Do you want to be on the cutting edge of the clean energy/climate tech industry? Are you excited about the intersection of renewable energy and the circular economy? We are too. And that’s why we launched SOLARCYCLE, Inc, a tech-driven recycling platform designed to maximize solar sustainability.
The solar industry needs a global end-of-life partner to restore, renew and ultimately recycle yesterday’s solar panels for tomorrow’s clean energy projects. SOLARCYCLE aims to be the partner of choice for solar asset owners looking for a responsible solution to their end-of-life system needs.
Solar power is one of the most powerful tools humanity has in our fight against climate change. But for solar to truly scale to its full potential, we need to create renewable supply chains and a vibrant secondary market for upcycled panels and recycled materials. SOLARCYCLE was founded by experts and advocates in solar, climate and circular economy. Our investors come from the frontlines of the solar industry, including the founders of SolarCity, SunPower and Nextracker. This is the next frontier – ensuring a cleaner, more sustainable and domestic supply of the critical minerals needed for the next wave of solar. We exist to make clean energy massively scalable and even more sustainable by radically advancing recycling technology and infrastructure for the solar industry. If this resonates with you, we really want to meet you.
About the role
We are looking for engineers to set up and optimize our advanced recycling lines in Odessa, Texas. You will be working in collaboration with our technology team to implement and improve SOLARCYCLE’s processes. You will work at our main recycling facility to implement optimizations, efficiencies and improvements to it. This may involve troubleshooting equipment, designing components on computer software of your choice (e.g. Inventor, Solidworks, Fusion 360), ordering/selecting such components and placing them in the line. The candidate needs to be comfortable being on the manufacturing floor. This is not an equipment maintenance role. You will be involved in maintenance and will be giving directions to technicians in respect to equipment maintenance, but you will also apply new component designs, and participate in the creation of new equipment and recycling ideas - from conception to implementation. This role reports directly to the Chief Technology Officer but you will also work closely with our technology team (R&D, equipment procurement) and with the operational team (Operations Director, floor supervisors, operators and technicians).
Full job description
We are starting operations at SOLARCYCLE and as such have been installing new lines. Our process takes end of life solar panels and dismantles them into individual components or materials. The higher quality materials we can get, the more they can be reused in the supply chain. This role works in the interface between the operations team and technology team, and is able to direct floor technicians and operators, while also designing and implementing changes. The equipment and processes being used by SOLARCYCLE are brand new and innovative and thus troubleshooting them is critical. You will be responsible for understanding the innovations created by the technology team and bridging them to the operation. As such, this person will understand and oversee the whole line in respect to its operation mechanisms and components.
This is a position for those who like seeing things through, from start to finish. You will work both in an office with a computer and on the floor overseeing the recycling line. So you get the best of both worlds. You will also get the best of both teams: technology and operations. With the technology team, you will work on coming up with new processes for PV recycling, new ways to do things and new products. You will get a full understanding of how PVs are made, what they are made of, and what is important in the recycling operation. With the operations team, you will interact with technicians, operators and supervisors to ensure the equipment is running as it should and to troubleshoot failures and minimize downtime.
